Senegal were far too strong for Tahiti who suffered a 3-0 defeat in the opening match of the Fifa Under-20 World Cup at the Lublin Stadium, Poland, on Thursday evening.
Â
In fact, the fans had hardly sat settled down when after 9.6 seconds Amadou Sagna scored for Senegal, and then went on to score a hattrick in what was a dream start to the tournament for the Africans.
Â
“It’s a huge honour and it makes me very happy to have scored the fastest goal and to have broken the record,” said Sagna.Â
Â
“Scoring three goals is also very special, but I can’t accept all the plaudits because we worked brilliantly as a team.”
Â
The Young Lions of Teranga were on their game from the off, piling on the pressure and seizing control with a 2-0 lead inside 30 minutes.Â
Â
Sagna wasn’t done turning heads after the first minute, either.Â
Â
The 19-year-old scored one final time in the 50th minute to secure all three points and a perfect start for the Africans.
Â
Senegal will next face Colombia on Sunday.
